Taking care of your timber decks is very important to keep it looking as good as it did on day one. Here are some tips that you can follow to maintain the quality of your sundecks.
Wash Your Timber Deck
By regularly washing your deck, you can prevent mould and mildew, which can cause rot inside the timber.
TIP: Wash your deck on a cloudy day, to prevent the cleanser from evaporating before you wash it off.
Seal Your Timber Deck
Sealers and stains are available from any good hardware store. Lightly sand your deck, replace popped nails and screws and then apply the new coat of sealer or stain.
TIP: Choose a two-day period of clear skies to allow the stain and sealer to dry properly.
Inspect and Repair
Regular inspections of your timber deck will allow you to spot a problem before it is too late. Once the problem area has been identified, repair it as soon as possible.
Prevention is better than a Cure
Make sure nearby bushes are trimmed away from your timber deck to prevent mold and moss build-up.
Do not allow leaves and debris to pile up in the corner of your deck – this will allow moisture to stay inside the timber, which can damage the timber.
Move pot-plants, tables and chairs occasionally, to avoid discolouring on your deck.
